Butcher Shops Houston

If you're in Houston, please share where you go for some great cuts of meat.

I sometimes buy my meat from Costco, but as a single father with a 4yo son, it can be more than we need. I heard that you can approach butchers in grocery chains (HEB/Kroger/Randall's) for special requests (e.g. a slab of beef short ribs before they are processed and re-packaged). I just haven't tried it.

I'd greatly appreciate any help.

Have you tried doing a search for real butcher shops on Yelp or google? You can also break down the big costco packs into more appropriate portions and vacuum seal them.

Is there a vacuum sealer in the house? Even a food saver so you can freeze a few meals at a time?

I'm out in Katy and HEB is my go to. I've developed a friendly relationship with the meat dept manager who has helped me out several times. In town, Central Market (an HEB high end sister store has a friggin amazing meat and seafood dept) is great to go to although it can be a bit pricey. You can check online for their weekly sales. Personally I stay clear of Kroger. Randall's has a nice selection and one of the few places that still offer Angus beef but again, unless you can get items on sale, they are one of the priciest stores in town (overpriced).

That's my goal: befriend the meat dept manager at my HEB in Pearland. I have shopped a few times at CM and do recall their great variety in selection. I just haven't been back since I received my Joules. I do have a foodsaver, so I will start batch cooking on the weekends and freezing meals.

Revival Market in The Heights has a great selection, though the HEB meat counter is usually my go-to. They have awesome prime aged stuff. Just this weekend they had their prime aged NY strips for $8.98/lb. I know not all HEB's have meat counter. I go to the one on Grant 7 Spring Cypress or the one on Louetta & 249.
