Something Comforting

Well I wanted to cook something warm and comforting for my lack of a Valentine and then we got all this snow dumped on us over the past 36 hours with another 6+inches plus freezing rain in the forecast for tonight. I've got some bone-in pork belly in the ftidge as well as some homemade italian dausage, beef meatballs, 00 flour and other great items for a meat sauce and homemade pasta. Looking forward to sharing on what i decide.

Halifax, Nova Scotia. I am with ya - architecture and food are the two biggest factors when I plan my vacations.

I'm always amazed at how easily we can communicate with one another nowadays! You're in Nova Scotia with all the snow and ice and I'm way down in Houston Texas, the land of high humidity and temperatures where the mere mention of snow literally shuts the city down!

By the way, if you're ever in the States, best old buildings I've enjoyed seeing are in Boston. Fabulous!

Anyway, I'm looking forward to your pictures!

I love Boston. I am also a huge fan of the architrcture in Chicago - not to mention it is another amazing food town.

A couple years ago, I took my Grandfather to his favourite neighbourhood restaurant. He enjoys sitting at the Harbourside windows and looking out on the "old farm". His family had several hundred acres that were expropriated in WW2 to build a magazine dump. He talks about fishing from the brook, drinking fresh spring water and picnics down by the water. He also talks about seing the Hidenburg floating over Halifax on its way to New York with its massive Nazi flags. On this day, the day my cousin had his first son on the otherside of the country, he talked about how they didn't have electricity on the farm when he wa nearly five and how if you heard from family on the otherside of the country it was in a letter weeks after someone had died. Here he was, lookong at a photo of his Great Grandson minutes after being born. He was a pilot during the war and when he was born most people had never seen an airplane. By the time he was a father, we were walking on the moon and today flying has just become routine. All in one lifespan. Amazing.
