Microgreens

I have tried a few times in the past on growing microgreens and am doing it again. This time I am wondering when does one harvest them? I am assuming any time after they have their first real leaves and not at the cotelydon stage?

Any help is great. Thanks.

It will vary ALLOT! Grab a cheap bound notebook and when you get your seeds, date when you plant them and when you harvest. Sounds like a PITA but is so worth it. E.G. This past weekend I did a tasting menu for a small group of ladies. Only a few days, so I knew what I could grow to have in time and what I couldn't. Simple microgreens (spicy or mild blend) is great for he ego (easy and quick :-)). But there's so many others!

Thanks, it appears from that site microgreens are clipped at the cotyledon stage (no first true leaves). Based on the photos from the below link, it appears Chefsteps lets them grow out to true leaves stage and then clips them back to use.. I think.

Thanks Todd. I assume in the example you gave you are clipping the cotyledons and not the true leaves in only a couple of days of growing time? I find growing everything very easy, just confused as to when to cut them. Cotyledons (IMO) all look the same on all the plants, they have no real distinct leaf shape and the colour it all more or less the same.

Most flavour is there at the cotyledon stage, but they colour and visual interest isn't there.

I think you will find with microgreens it will be quite different . The below pic is after ~7-8 days and the purslane (in the forefront) had nice flavor and color at ~5days. For last week's event, I made it easy on my and used the mixed spicy and mild greens (in the back) on day 5.

It looks like they don't have true leaves though, is that a correct observation?
