Ouch...70%. Not good for my pride. It made you step back and really think about the questions/answers. They weren't always obvious. That's a good thing.

I found the last 3 questions quite tricky. Like Brian said, you really need to step back and think about the questions/answers. Hopefully, I have learnt something from making those mistakes.

I just took it too. Missed two questions but happy to see that they were the two that were least likely to be answered correctly.

Feedback: I think 10 questions are just right. I like the relative simplicity of the questions, i.e. no long contextual set up. I like the non-credit drag and drop and it would be great if you could incorporate that into the quiz itself. I suspect many of us here are visual learners. I very much like the fact that the quiz made me think. It wasn't too hard but not too easy, either. Pre-testing is always a good idea as you can suss out questions that should be extra-credit rather than part of the quiz itself. Overall, once again superb effort on the part of our rock star team of chefs.

I thought the quiz was perfectly constructed; it made me think about each question even though I have been thinking about this stuff heavily for the past month or so.

Specific feedback: I though question 6 was worded awkwardly. Most applications, I think, have the searing step after sous vide cooking, not before, so I was confused when it said, "...heat food to the desired doneness from a searing step..." rather than the reverse, "...heat food to the desired doneness then doing a searing step...".

I got 1 wrong and quite frankly, after I re-read the question, I should have answered it correctly. Don't know what was going through my brain. I thought the quiz was well constructed. Really wouldn't foresee a need to change it.

I've got this answer wrong, but only because I couldn't understand it (I'm from Brazil).

True or False: The best sous vide results often require a two-step approach to cooking that separates heating the food to the desired doneness from a searing step.

After going through all the modules again, I'd like to be able to take the quiz again to see if I've improved my understanding. Can you make that possible? It will only show me my results from last time if I go there again.

@lachlanhunt let me think about that; maybe we could have a "Take This Quiz Again" button. The other thing we are going to do is add an explanation under each question on the results page, so for the ones you got wrong, you'll be able to find out what you were missing.

@Michael, I just went through the quiz quickly without thinking too much about some of the answers, and most of the ones I got wrong, were the ones where the correct answer was "All of the above", or where I misinterpreted the question and/or answer. I hate questions where it's all of the above, because they're confusing and risky.

I would prefer that, instead of having "All of the above" as an option, you instead had questions that said to check all answers that are correct.

Everyone, thanks for your feedback. We'll try to adopt some of these changes and I'll keep these things in mind when I write the next quiz. Allowing multiple selections to the answers is a bit of work on the backend and increases the complexity of scoring and providing feedback, so that might take a little while to figure out an elegant solution.

Can I ask how valuable you find the idea of a quiz that tests what you've learned and how well we've done explaining things?

How do people feel about weekly homework that involves cooking challenges?

Chris - I like the idea of the quiz and do find it valuable as a retention tool. As far as weekly homework involving a cooking challenge....bring it on!!!!! For someone like me that isn't a trained chef (and quite frankly even for those that are), perfect to hone your skills by being challenged.

Cooking challenges would be awesome.

Regular tests would be useful too. Maybe for that, you could make many questions, and then provide a random selection of around 10 questions each week to each user. That random selection could also include questions the user previously answered wrongly to see if they're improving.

@Chris I would love a weekly cooking challenge as i am running out of stuff to cook around here.

The tests are a great way to re-enforce what we did learn and help us find out what we may have missed, the only better way to learn something would be to teach it.

This site is the bomb. The quiz is extremely valuable not just for retention but for taking the learning seriously. Love the cooking challenge idea but do keep in mind those of us who are predominantly weekend cooks.

Maybe having a community wide question related to an aspect of sous-vide or whatever the module topic may be and having us conduct our own experiments and post our conclusions a la the MOCA (massively online cooking activities) found at http://sciencefare.org/2012/11/05/moca-november-cooking-challenge/

@Susan I think the most important part about this is that it works like open source, it isn't necessary to be at a particular level, you are here, you participate - that is all that is needed, we are all learning and evolving.

Being open with regards to success / failure, learning is just part of the process.
