What happened to ChefSteps?

I used to look forward to new recipes and videos from them, but it feels like months have gone bye and we haven't really gotten much. There's tons of cuts, foods recipes that could be done but I haven't seen much from ChefSteps. Even their App hasn't seen much updated. What's going on?

I mean, they've been doing a lot with grilling lately because of summer. If your post is in reference to the older "chefy"/complicated recipes, I can understand the frustration because I love and miss that aspect too. Then again, the company did that for years while remaining, to my understanding, completely unprofitable. So it makes sense that you can't really do that forever. They have a new product to promote that's only about a year old. It follows that the majority of their effort would be surrounding Joule, at least for the time being. Not to mention, the majority of my cooking is more along the simple weeknight dinner lines, as opposed to the older, more involved content, and I don't think I'm alone.

The old CS is still there and around and although they've spent a great deal of time behind Joule, they have also expressed that they are currently in discussions as to how to maintain the new audience and rekindle the CS older spirit (for lack of better words). They are working their tails off and if anything the only things they are short on is time and people :-) Recipes are being released periodically some more complex than others in an effort to remain balanced and push forward. They are not resting with where they are now, that's for sure.

By their app: do you mean the chefsteps app, or the joule app. Personally, I'm not a fan of living I and teaming their recipes down on my computer, but I do see their stuff getting updated now and then when I use it. You can also check in with the gallery, but the joule gets updated much more frequently.

I'm not suggesting so much the complicated stuff, I just think that their recipes for Sous Vide in particular have stalled. We used to get new ideas a few times a month, but lately it just seems mostly like "other people's ideas." There are honestly a ton of difference Sous Vide recipes out there, but I always trust ChefSteps to tell us the best way to do it. I dunno. It just feels like the videos have dramatically slowed down and I'm not learning a whole lot of new ways to use my Sous Vide.

Hey Abdel, I couldn't agree more with concern in the stalling of recipes. That said, I would encourage you to choose a protein and search for it in the Joule app. They may not have flavor profiles or recipes, but they have time and temp combinations for over a hundred proteins that they didn't do a very good job advertising. I hope that helps!

Have had similar thoughts/concerns myself recently also. Methinks/Hope they are indeed looking at getting their Mojo back. Feels like we had a rich start to the year with FB Lives etc but not much visible energy/output recently. I miss the masterclass levels of content rich videos they used to do while balancing their unique characters - Get Nick on camera more and have Dana talk to us about his style/plating/presentation etc etc....you've created a community CS we just want to have sustenance (pun intended). Hold some QnA's / get to know the gang etc etc if you need time to generate content.

I've noticed all the comments are attempts at appeasement and to justify/give benefit of the doubt to ChefSteps rather than opening a conversation with Abdel.

To clarify to everyone here on the board why Abdel is concerned and what has been chapping his ass about this all is that the site and the app and the spirit of learning and progress that drew in the community and nurtured them through ChefSteps growth has waned to the point of neglect. It has been a year at least since the comments here.

I implore you to take a look through the site Brian, Todd, Luke and Michael and confirm with your eyes that what Abdel is concerned about has come to pass.

None of this is to signal the end of a great thing. To the contrary, conversations and insight from these boards is necessary to spur ChefSteps and the team behind the company to the next phase of growth. Do not hold back insights, do not be concerned about whether it is positive or negative. It is necessary and it must be clearly articulated. Be a part of their growth, express your insights.

I'm pretty sure my post said it all: they are much more focused on updating the content of the Joule app than they are updating the content of the website. I'm not a fan of this move, but this is what they seem to want to do. I don't know what else you expect from me, but that's all i had to say then, and pretty much still the case.
