Round one with the konro was a resounding success. My wife enthusiastically endorsed the grill purchase... and she couldn’t stop thinking of things to throw on there in the future. Didn’t have time for a ton of pics... these were from the end —- dark meat with the tare.

Thighs with tare were the big winner. Also the shio chicken breasts with some uzu salt on the finish. I had a spray bottle filled with sake to get the initial round of salt to adhere.

I don't know that they have a brand, per se. They're usually just sold as a "konro grill." I got mine at MTC Kitchen, which is the only place that has this size in stock right now. Korin also sells them, as does Knifewear in Canada. According to Korin, the manufacturer is "Kaginushi Kogyo K. K." . They're made from slabs of naturally quarried diatomite rock (which are fired to create the ceramic bricks that make up the grill).

Good times! Looks like you had fun. Thigh meat is our fav here too and the wifey likes pineapple between the chicken. We get very thin sliced beef blade at our asin market that sometimes get cut about 1.5” x 6-8” that I roll up and skewer with onions/negi, very good with shishitos!

When the grill starts to get black with use on the top surface just take a piece of straight sumi and rest it on the dirty parts for a couple of minutes. It’ll burn it gone

Pineapple is a good call, as are shishitos! We had some grilled shishitos dunked in tare, and they were immediate favorites.. And that's a great tip about using some sumi to clean the grill. I have one stubborn spot of carbon that just won't scrub off... looks like I may have to just burn it off.

Ditto!! So in trouble now.. being eyeballing one for the longest time. Got a cheap knockoff that cracked after 3 use. Still ok to use as the wall are hold by a sheet metal but this one looks amazing.

This was Pok Pok's brand, called Thaan. It's a compressed, extruded form of charcoal made from rambutan wood. I got it on Amazon.

I'd been eyeing one for the longest time as well, and finally just did it. Though they seem expensive, they're a heck of a lot of grill in a very small package. I gladly paid more to get this over a Weber kettle grill, though that's a radically different style. I already have a Weber gas grill to make food for a huge crowd; this is the perfect complement.
