Sub for beer
John_Douglas_79072
My wife cannot have gluten, is there a substitute for beer in your batter recipe, Or for that matter, in any recipe? I know they make a GF beer, would that work?
TIA,
John

The GF beer would work, as would VERY cold carbonated water. I would not give the carbonated water the 2 hour window of use, but it does work quite nicely.

Thanks Todd,
I appreciate the help. I guess there would be a loss of "taste" using the water.

You can always add other spices and such into the flour mix for flavor, but the carbonated will allow the product flavor to come through (not a bad thing at all).

Depending on your wife’s risk tolerance, there are also a number of gluten “reduced” beers on the market. These beers are treated with an enzyme that reduces gluten levels to a concentration that is undetectable by the most sensitive assays. My wife must also avoid gluten and has consumed these beers without having a noticeable response.

There is also Asian beer made with rice.
