A Light Snack - Floating Burger

I've finally gotten around to buying a decent camera and getting into photography. I want to more in my food plating and photographing skills and just did a really quick, slap together of recreating the levitating burger from MC. I did this in about 30mins and another 30 in Photoshop. Now that I tested out my idea I am going to spend some time actually playing it better and getting a more professional result.

This is really cool! I also recently got around to buying a good camera (and lights, etc), but I don't do much manipulation of images apart from processing from RAW files. I'm curious how you achieved the floating effect. I suspect it's just some Photoshop skills that I don't currently possess. Nice work!

Actually, not a lot of Photoshop - I bought two plungers to use as stands (cause they were on sale and cheap and I was in a rush to get it done for a photography club assignment), some eye hooks and fishing line. I ran the fishing line around the plungers and tied the eye hooks and then snapped away. I also took a photo of the background before setting up (kept the camera on a tripod) and stacked the photos in Photoshop... Using a layer mask to allow the burger to be visible and the wireless background to be seen. I them used the clone tool tool to remove the wire on the food items.

I am new to Photoshop but it was pretty basic and I spent half hour tops, including adjusting exposure, saturation, etc in Lightroom.

That sounds like a fun assignment! You actually just inspired me to take a look around for some local photography clubs in my area. And thanks for explaining the process using the layer mask and clone tool... makes sense, but it's not something I would immediately think of doing. My Photoshop kung fu is so weak..
