Joule Ready slightly misleading?

Hi,

Just ordered 3 sauces and I am curious to know if others were slightly confused upon receiving them. I know I probably should have read the finer print but for $7 I was expecting a full jar of sauce I could use over multiple sessions not a bit of sauce in a bag for one time use.... anyone else think this is way over priced for what you are getting or am I just let down because I got excited and didn’t read through to the serving size...

I definately think it's more than I'm willing to pay, but if you scroll down a little to the nutritional panel, it does indicate how much you're getting. I can't imagine why you would buy something before knowing how much you were going to get.

I've ordered a number of them, knew the volume of what I was getting and enjoyed them all. while a jar volume would be nice (assuming you mean 16oz or larger), I typically would not use that much in a serving for a couple of people. So, I personally don't think they are too much for what we get. JMHO.

I wasn't confused, but I haven't purchased any of the Joule Ready sauces because they seem like $2 worth of sauce in a 15 cent bag sold for $7. 4 ounces of sauce for $6.95? I don't care if it has a freaking QR code on it...
I've been throwing curries and spice pastes in my sous vide bags for years, and nowadays there are tons of ready-made sauces that are just as "Joule ready" as Joule Ready sauces, but which can be purchased much more cheaply (and are much more widely available). They are often branded as "simmer sauces" or "skillet sauces." Most of the flavor varieties seem to be of the Asian persuasion, though Rick Bayless does have a decent line of Mexican skillet and slowcooker sauce pouches available under the Frontera brand. They typically cost half the price of the Joule Ready bags (or less) and contain twice as much sauce. Of course, they don't come with a QR code on the side that holds your hand... but who really needs that anyway?

I think they are a reasonable deal, in that these are designed to compete with other alternatives like Blue Apron for busy people who want to cook a quick and tasty meal for their family. You are paying for convenience and quality ingredients.

For the "New School Teriyaki" sauce that I prepared with pork loin and the recommended sides of rice and broccoli, I calculated it worked out to $5 a serving. Of course that was assuming I cooked only two servings. I've often put more than 2 servings in a bag and there usually seems to be enough sauce for 4 servings in most of the bags, assuming you can fit that much meat in the bag (however, a couple of sauces seem to work best with more sauce per serving). I've even put as many as 7 boneless, skinless chicken thighs in the Vadouvan Curry bag, although that carries with it the caveat that these sauces are designed to be diluted by the meat juices and 7 thighs resulted in a thinner sauce (although I could have thickened it afterwards). So the cost per serving can be substantially better than it initially appears.

While the QR codes are merely convenient, the simple sides that they lead to are good matches for the dishes. They are obviously much more basic than the typical CS online recipes, but even I have learned a few new tricks from them.

More importantly, these sauces taste WAY BETTER than anything you are buying in a can or bottle at the grocery store (#gagmewiththeproverbialspoon). If I served one to you blind, you would never believe that I hadn't made it from scratch. Just imagine how much time and ingredients making some of these sauces would take if you had to do it yourself?

When you consider all that, I have zero problem with the current prices of these sauces. I've made about 7-10 different ones and have been very happy with them all.

I think that it's value for money - it's clearly high quality for a fair price, and as mentioned, you can also stuff 3-4 portions in if you want.

Additionally you can read the declaration in the shop and recreate the sauce yourself *)

*) sadly I have to (luckily I can do) - I'm living in denmark and Joule by itself only recently arrived here
