This is some really bad reasoning, but just for fun I want to engage in a bit of post-hockery. Here is my modest proposal...
ChefSteps seemed to go off the rails just about the time that Riley left. So surely, Riley must have been The Keymaster. Yes, that wonderful little moffit was surely the secret glue holding the ChefSteps learning/cooking community together. So I say: Bring back Riley!
Riley left and then the content fell off. Post hoc ergo... bring back Riley!
I'm not sure what Grant's trying to do these days that Heston didn't do better and first on the BBC (sorry man... I freaking love you, but his programming set a very high bar that I don't think you can hit given the institutions and incentives available to you. You can't out-Heston Heston, especially when he's got the BBC behind him). I'm also not sure what Chris Young is up to, but from the looks of his Instagram feed, he's too busy with Burning Ham exploits and flying gliders to keep an eye on what's happening back at ChefSteps. And you know what? Good for him. He deserves some downtime on a beach or a mountaintop or gliding above the clouds. That dude's accomplished a lot, and I know he's got a lot left within him. (Maybe he's secretly busting his ass on regulatory compliance and drowning in BS red tape trying bring Joule to the global market... or building a Joule Pro that has NSF certification... or secretly developing the ultimate home combi oven... or...). So enjoy your downtime, Chris. Or your uptime. Whatever the hell it is you're doing, please just enjoy yourself. And speaking of cool Instagram feeds, I'm not sure what Dana Tough does over there in Seattle, but it looks like a lot of snow sports. That's pretty cool. I've never been to the PNW, but it looks like a biome I would love. I love the view from a mountaintop, and the Appalachians do not provide much elevation. At least these days. They were once the most extreme rock faces on the face of the planet, but times have a way of changing even the most seemingly eternal institutions. But I have begun to ramble. I don't know where Ben or Nick went. Huy? No idea. I heard a rumor that Doug Baldwin works at ChefSteps. Doing what? I don't know. But that guy sure is smart and talented, and I learned a lot from him.
I have no idea what's up at ChefSteps HQ. They ain't making new content. And they ain't making new "smart products." At least, nothing they're planning on telling us about. Bag sauces? Is this the future of food? Is THAT how you make a Chef Step? Meh. Get it together. Bring back the sense of wonder. Bring back the Deep Fry Frenzy! Corned Beef with Camp! Bring back Riley!
