Grant: Thank you for your email w/ subject: "We have to do this, folks"
I understand your point however the healthcare situation here in the US is going to get worse before is going to get better - this is what I have been hearing/ reading for many days from the experts/ epidemiologists interviewed by the national media.
What is happening in Italy is really troublesome, from what I hear from my elderly parents and my sister (they live in Switzerland, just a couple of miles from the borders with Italy) and by reading Italian newspapers and watching Italian TV online.
What we call here in the US “Social Distancing” is what first China and now Italy identified as the best way to slow down the transmission of the COVID-19 virus and therefore provide relief to their healthcare systems.
The healthcare system in northern Italy - considered world-class - is on its knee. Hospitals in Milan execute their triage outdoor: some sick patients are turned away because of lack of space and resources.
Panic and over-reacting won’t help, however we need to change our social habits now to minimize the opportunities of transmitting the virus.
Unfortunately social distancing doesn’t include going out for dinner with friends and family.
Cheers,
RG
