Who built their pizza oven?
FrankM_3301
This was an easy and inexpensive build. It works great. The first use produced acceptable pizza. Just have to dial it in. Next time I will be more patient with pre-heating, and I have purchased a longer pizza peel, because this thing gets damn hot!

I'm gonna do it...but no time yet!

Will be interested to see if you can get a balanced bake. It looked like Grant was having trouble.

Yea, the videos show a burnt bottom, which is what I was worried about. I do a lot of pizza, all in my kitchen oven. I get decent results, but no real leopard spotting. After this initial attempt, I would say the bottom (shown) is a real improvement over the indoor oven (on a pizza steel), The top, which I didn't show above, was about the same as it comes out in my kitchen. So, it shows promise. My plan is to create a bit more space (open "vent") in the back of the brick oven, to allow more heat flow, and be more patient on the preheat. The crust pictured above was the 2nd of two pizza. It was much better than the first. I'll update with a new post on my next attempt.

I'd guess that there isn't much heat reaching the roof (and circulating air below the dome), which is what you need to have a correspondingly high dome temp to cook the top of the pizza. So a lot of the heat blows out the front

That looks great, good leoparding. I have a propane outdoor pizza oven and let it heat up and equalize for about an hour to get even cooking.

I built the oven and during initial fire after about 30 minutes, the 2 inch thick blue stone slab started exploding and fracturing. What did I do wrong? Here on east coast this set up cost me 200.00. Finding the 2 inch stone was the hardest part at a cost of 140.00 after cutting. Any help or ideas of what I did wrong would be helpful.

I live just outside Philly. I picked up the clay bricks and the concrete pavers at Lowes. The pavers were about $7 apiece (largest concrete ones they had). The bricks were 70 cents apiece (but cashier couldn't find them in the system, so she charged me 30 cents each. The price of some similar looking paving brick). No cutting. No popping. Yours looks good, though. Were you able to cook in it?

The intense heat made the blue stone explode fracturing pcs off and also crack the stone. How does your concrete paver handle heat? Is it smooth enough to bake pizza on? Was it hard to find 24x16x2 concrete? Never got to cook on it. Bricks were. 48 each, not bad for Fairfield County. If I wanted fire bricks, 1.00 each. 48x18x2 inch blue stone tread 146.00 including cutting, (the reason I got blue stone, it was only thing stone shop had that was 2 inch thick) bag of stone dust 5.50, bucket of gravel 3.00

I just searched Lowes and Home Depot for 24x16 concrete paver. They were in stock in a nearby store. So far, so good on handling the heat....and you can see the results above, though I am still dialing it in.
