Pizza Oven Exploded

I built a pizza oven but a few minutes in the bottom paver exploded (Were were not that close to it so no one was harmed)

Any tips on how I could avoid this? What is the best paver material to use?

Hey frank, the bricks I originally bought were concrete, switched those out for fire bricks.

Hey frank, Yea, both Lowes and home depot around me (Fairfield County ct) do not have the 24x16x2 pavers. I did buy the fire bricks, and am now casting my own castable refractory cement for slab. After blue stone incident and shards firing out I decided to go with what they use in bottom of brick ovens. To get 24x16x2 inch slab I needed 2 25 lb buckets of castable refractory cement at a cost of 106 dollars from home depot. This thing driving me crazy.

Not sure where you live, but I'm using the concrete paver in the first link (or close to it). So far I've had excellent results. At less than $7, even if it cracks I'll just go grab a new one. Also, clay bricks are fine, no need for more expensive fire brick. Now that you are in...you are in, so I wish you success...but it is possible for less than $50

So far I'm into this dam thing for 640.00. When my blue stone exploded and fractured, I researched and decided to cast my own 2 inch thick castable refractory cement. I made a mold with wood. Replaced all the bricks with fire bricks which around here are 1.79 each., the bucket of 12.5 lbs of castable refractory cement are 42. 00 a bucket. (need 4) to make 24x16x2 inch stone. My wife wants to start a go fund me page because I said "I'm going to make this little brick pizza oven in backyard it should only cost about 50 bucks".
