Favorite Potato Chip Seasoning
ParkerCook_66639
Hey everyone! I'm experimenting with homemade potato chips and want to ask everyone's favorite potato chip seasonings! Everyone loves potato chips so what is the best flavor that you've ever put onto your homemade chips? I've messed with BBQ, jalapeno-lime and the trendy nori-salt mixes. Let me know what you like!

I guess I'm simplistic, but I'd have to go first place bbq second place just salt. Ideally the BBQ should have that spice-sweet-salty contrast.

now I made myself hungry... I will work on it next week

@RobParker
You can order tomato powder from Spice House to save you some tomato-drying-time.

Cheese and bbq are the favourites. But truffle sounds good ad well, i know that gordon ramsay got truffle fries at his burger place maybe you can try it with chips like a truffle salt seasoning

This is the single greatest potato chip flavor I've ever tasted! Sadly, they changed the formula recently and the new version is off balance:

@Parker
, you might consider going with straight homemade chips (a little thicker than store bought ships) and then do a warm bacon, blue cheese sauce ...

These are pretty good though too:

I discovered these in the last year.
They're stupid good. Brought a couple bags back from España, and they didn't survive the first day home.

@Matthew
Synder - Those are great, but I'm partial to the orange bag, backyard BBQ flavor if you haven't tried it yet.
Matthew_Snyder_68770
The Kettle chips? Yeah, I've tried them. They're good, but I prefer the Classic BBQ. Just a matter of preference.
I certainly wouldn't turn down the Backyard chips if they were offered!

@Patrick
, I made sriracha salt which works great as well as a wasabi salt. Because of the oil in truffle oil one might try using maltodextrin to make a powder first then blend with salt for a truffle topping

@RobParker
How did you make your salts?

I'm a purist. Salt only.
HammeredChef_DEFINITELY_does_NOT_work_at_22134
@ParkerCook
, i just mix the Kosher (or sea salt) with the ingrediant until I get the desired amount of flavor, spread on aluminum foil and put in the toaster oven at 185F until dried out, then a quick whirl in the spice grinder or whatever you have. The last Sriracha salt i made I left it in the oven accidentally, it had started to brown. I almost threw it out but, tasted it first......AWESOME toasted flavor.

Smoked sea salt. I throw a small pie pan of sea salt in the cold smoker any time I fire it up for cheese, eggs, etc.

Have you ever tried making a chocolate salt? I figure you could either just mix a small amount of chocolate with large salt crystals and then follow your process or even process the mix without drying first. What do you think ?
Timmy_74965
Flaked salt and cracked pepper! Seems simple, but so delectable. I'm also partial to grated garlic, lemon zest, fresh thyme, Madras curry, smoked chili, etc...not all in the same mix, of course...but mix and match.

We came across these on a recent trip to Scotland. Haven't tried them yet as haggis was the source of some nasty food poisoning during the trip, but once we get over that emotional blockade we'll definitely dig in.
DiggingDogFarm_65362
The jamón flavored
tater chips I had is Spain are my favorite.
SHort of that, I'll that salt and vinegar or just plain salted.

@parkercook
, I have not tried chocolate salt but, sounds great. Maybe just cocoa powder for first experiment?
