* Search - check it out on the upper left.

* Image zooming - click any image!

* Comment sorting - you'll see that now there is a Hot/New sorting option for comments. So when Douglas writes a monster essay on botulism that gets tons of likes, it won't languish down at the bottom of a giant comment thread and will instead be pushed up for more visibility.

All three of these features are new and we would love you to test them as much as possible. All feedback welcome!

Great work with everything! I really like how this is coming together!

Would it be possible to arrange the posts in a forum category so that the posts that receive a comment get bumped to the top of the list? That way it'd make it a lot easier to catch up on what's going on if you don't explicitly follow a post and so good discussions don't get buried at the bottom of the forum.

Nice! When I select the image, it's often so big that I need to scroll down to see it in it's entirety, but when I go to scroll, the image get's put back to original size. Thanks for doing all this!

Ditto on the read and not read posts. I do really like all the improvements though, especially being able to reply to a reply and keeping it together as opposed to saying who you are replying too in the post.

I'm still a bit concerned about the usability of the new forum. The new forum feels a bit more chaotic. Mostly because in the new forum everything takes up more space. In the old forum I can quickly glance over the topics I've read and which I haven't. There are visual cues to help me guide me to the topics containing posts I haven't yet read. On a 1920x1080 monitor I can see the last 13 threads commented on in the old forum, while in the new forum I can see the last three(!) threads created. This is fine as long as long as the forum is in testing and isn't used as often, but could be problematic when the new forum replaces the old one.

Thanks Pepijn, I'll shed some light onto our thinking thus far. First, the community center we are using now plays a slightly different role than the forum. While the forum is solely for discussions, the community center is meant as more of a central hub for everything ChefSteps.

While you'll be able to filter for discussions and use it in a similar way to the current forum, it'll also be a great way to discover new recipes and classes on ChefSteps, as well as awesome comments made on recipes, whereas if the new comment is on an old recipe, it may have been missed otherwise.

Regarding the raw number of posts visible on a single monitor, the old forum was good at showing a bunch of titles, but bad at showing context. It also doesn't have relevance, the notion that certain discussions are more interesting to certain people. We want to show you more useful context(photos, snippet of content) for the posts that are best for you, a side-product being we can fit less space than a simple list of titles. Admittedly we have not gone very far down the path of optimizing relevance yet, but we hope it'll make browsing the community far more interesting and engaging.

Does that make sense? Part of the reason we ran this beta is because we're so interested in input like this.
