We're excited to ship post relevance! Right above the feed, you might notice two new options, 'Hot' and 'New.'
The default sorting method of the feed is Hot, which uses a (for now relatively simple) equation to calculate a 'relevance score' for each post. This score takes into account a variety of factors like the number of likes, comments, etc, as well as when the most recent comment was.
Practically, this means that more interesting, relevant content will float to the top of the feed, hopefully making your ChefSteps community experience that much better. We also take into account that new posts with no comments have to be given a chance to rise up, so we give them a boost.
We've been using this internally at ChefSteps for about a week now, and we've been very pleased with the increase in discoverability of new posts and particularly when an old post gets a new comment and is pushed up.
We'll keep tweaking the scoring algorithm over the next few days and weeks to make it even better. Enjoy, and as always, we look forward to hearing your feedback on this feature.
EDIT: Sharp-eyed users may also have noticed a few other new things:
* short posts no longer require you to click "show more"!
* design tweaks - categories look better now, amongst other things.
