Small fire pit so did everything in the pit. New York strip with Fire roasted old beets (left in the garden), mushrooms, onions, potatoes and pickled onions and red cabbage. The steak was really nice and the wood fire lends a nice smokey infusion to all elements. The biggest surprise was both.....the beets (which were left in the garden through the snow storms, frosts etc.....and forgotten) and were unlike any other beet I've had. So small and flavor was huge!.....and the sauteed pickled onions and cabbage. I looked for "cooked" pickled onions and couldn't find anything. I would recommend if nothing else, toss a bit of butter in a pan and add some pickled onions and cook until colored. IMHO.....delicious. So I thought what if I add cabbage (I only had red).....feedback was where did this come from and why haven't you done this before (good for ego). So, all things fire roasted (open fire) New York Strip with mushrooms, onions, potatoes, pickled onion and cabbage, AND prolonged beets.
