My husband and I took on a double batch of Tartine's recipe for Buche de Noel to bring to our Christmas Eve and Christmas dinners. We didn't accurately portion the buttercream between the two cakes, so the second one ended up being much fatter than the first. We found the first one much more balanced in terms of the various components working together, whereas the second one seemed overly sweet and rich because of the extra buttercream.
But they were still delicious and I highly recommend the recipe.
