I know what you're thinking, and you're right. There's no birthday cake recipe in the Ad Hoc cookbook. (Or maybe there is. I didn't actually verify, but I don't think there is.) But that's not what this is about. I needed to make a birthday cake for my wife, and didn't want to go to the store, so I had to dig through the fridge / pantry to come up with something that made sense. At least a reasonable amount of sense such that I could justify not driving to the store. I found some oranges, so the game was on. This is what I came up with, and am happy to report it was pretty damn tasty.
Orange Creamsicle Cake:
Vanilla Chocolate Chip Cake, Orange Curd soak (poured over the cake before it set, because I didn't want to wait), Orange Pips and Whipped Creme Fraiche filling, and Caramelized White Chocolate Icing.
