Sunday Dinner Party - Menu Appraisal

Hosting a dinner party on Sunday (just in case the title didn't give that away). The menu I have planned currently stands as this. I'm concerned it may be a little overwhelming. Any thoughts? Pictures to follow

Smoked tomato soup, Coriander/Cilantro

Smoked haddock, poached egg, Iberico ham, Mustard butter sauce

Lamb, garden herbs, pea puree, parsnip crisp

Duck, maple, lavender, beetroot

Flourless carrot cake

You might of seen it already but you should read through the advice in this infographic. It is pretty helpful and certainly applies to your situation.

Sounds great! I like lavender in small amounts, but it's easy to overdo it. I'm wanting that soup.

Two smoked dishes in a row may be a bit much, I would change one of them. Smoke can easily over power the palate.

I would consider putting a palate cleanser between the lamb and duck. You need something to ensure the duck is not overpowered by the lamb.

The soup tasted great! Home-smoked around a dozen plum tomatoes over hickory chips for around 30 mins, added these to a basic soup base of sweated onion and garlic with a bouquet garni of rosemary, thyme and bay, seasoned, add tomato paste, around 1/2 a litre of tomato juice. reduce this down for around another 30 mins, blend, sieve and finish with butter and 100ml of cream. Garnish with fresh coriander/cilantro and some good quality olive oil
