Soapy taste of cakes

When I use baking soda as the recipe of the cakes necessitates, sometimes cakes taste a little bit soapy. Is it because of the excessive use of baking soda? Anyone has any suggestions?

It might be from unreacted baking soda because....
You're at a higher altitude, reduce the amount of baking soda
There's not enough acid, use larger eggs or reduce baking soda.
The baking soda is old, get a new batch
The baking soda wasn't mixed enough, make sure to mix the dry ingredients thoroughly before adding wet.
So in general, reduce the amount of baking soda.
