Barbecue mix sauce

I love making grill at home and I'm looking for the right barbecue sauce mix. Which brand of barbecue sauce mix do you all use. The one which I used before was too sweet and I did not like it. I've been asking people for suggestions and got many as recommendations. My husband's friends are coming for dinner so I thought I'd serve them barbecue. I also read of Horton Spice Mills, Canada( http://www.hortonspicemills.com/ ). Wonder if anyone used this?

Never used Horton's as I'm in the States, but I've used the ChefSteps bbq sauces they have listed on their site.

With the sweet and sticky, I've used the recipe to the letter, and I've also subbed the ketchup for home made mushroom ketchup, both with good results.

See @Brian's response. If you want a smokey BBQ sauce, use the sweet and sticky glaze and take the molasses wt and calculate 50% and use this value and add this much liquid smoke.

I just made the chefsteps sweet & sticky bbq glaze to use on sous vide'd then bbq seared country style pork ribs. Stuff rocks and takes minutes to make. (Brian has the link in his reply). Once you make it to their recipe, you can adjust for sweetness or heat to your personal preference. Other than that, I make my own recipe of bbq sauce. Tons of recipes out there in www land. Haven't bought factory made stuff in years.

It's Heston's recipe. I think i swapped corn starch for xanthan gum, but other than that it's the same. It has a while since i last made it

I think all of the different marks have entirely different tastes. That is why I am sure that if you need to find the perfect sauce for you, you must try all the ones on the market. I am sure that you will find the most suitable for you only after taking a bit from all the ones on the supermarket's shelf. For me, the best one is from bigwigjerky.com.au, but I cannot tell if it will suit you well. The method I gave you is the one that I used myself, and after two years of constantly trying, I could find the one that's best for me. My husband has another favorite, and this is how I can tell that everyone has different tastes.
