Pot Size

Hey Chef Nick. I am still waiting for the delivery of my Joule. In the meantime, can you tell me what is the ideal size pot to use for most cooking applications (how many quarts)? I understand you can use the Joule in any size container...including the bath tub, what is the best size for many items?

Hi there! While a normal stock pot works very well typically, if you're looking for something that can accommodate more for bigger dinners/projects, a Cambro actually might be a great idea!

I can buy stock pots from 6 quarts to 40 quarts. There must be an ideal size that allows water to come to the proper temperature quickly and allows for proper circulation of water. ....let me try this approach... there is a drought here in California, what size pot works best and does not waste water ;-)

Always start with hot tap water, you will save water and energy!

This is the one most of use. I would get a lid too but beware you will need to cut a hole in it for Joule to fit. If you are looking at metal I would make sure it is induction (magnetic) capable as Joule has a magnetic base and that will make things easier. Joule also has clips so the magnetic metal is just a good option.

Hi Gary, to me, and probably lots of others, there is no "one size fits all" and you probably have most all the sizes you need in your cabinets. I recently had a large shelf fall in the garage and broke all my "special" containers so I can't post picture (getting new ones this weekend). These are simply three different size STYROFOAM coolers (small medium and large) with holes cut in the lids for my Anova. They are cheap, light and stack inside one another. I am going to go on and prepare my new ones for the Joule by simply gluing a small metal disc to the bottom of the container......you get a nice tight fit with the lid helping to eliminate evaporation and it takes very little to maintain temp. As far as instant temp I boil a big (depending on which container) pot of water, dump it in, fire up the circulator and add cool water until i reach temp...
