Pizza

My best friend came over to watch the Bears game, err I mean secure their draft pick, so we turned it into a pizza party.

We made a slew of different kinds. Not all are pictured. Cooked in the oven on a baking steel under a 500 degree broiler.

Western style with BBQ sauce, bacon, onion, sausage.

Veggie - sautéed mushrooms, green pepper, onion.

Sauce-less white pizza with spinach and procuitto.

Italian - hot Italian sausage, procuitto, hot cappicolo.

I got the same problem creating the post on my iPhone.

The Baking Steel is awesome. I got the Big. It's a bit too much I think. It weighs a ton and it's hard to move. I'm also paranoid about dropping it on my toe!!! I'd go for the medium weight modernist cuisine edition of I had to do it again.

Nice job. My wife got me an outdoor pizza oven for my birthday a few years back. It can get up to 750°F. I did do a mod and added an additional stone which really helped regulate the heat better.

You can just buy a slab if tempered steel cut to size

I've never used my grill for pizza, I should give it a try. Not sure what's the max temp I can get on my grill but I can get up to the 700's

That was why I added the second stone to the pizza oven, the bottom was always getting burnt before the top was done.

Wow, outdoor oven. Nice! How often do you make pizza? Is it wood or gas fired?

If I had a Weber of get one of this pizza oven mods.

I put the baking steel on the gas grill and Heated it to 700. The crust burnt in seconds and the top was raw. It just conducts too much eat relative to the air above.

It's gas, heats up in about 30 minutes. I make pizza about twice a month.
