Just got my Joule. Replaced an older burned out cheaper unit (An****a) and as an adjunct/alternative to an expensive/larger (Po****e) unit. First impressions...
1) General: Very nice form factor and quiet. The magnetic base and bottom intake appear to allow me to use smaller pots that would not work well other products. E.g., for a single-meal steak, pork chop, veggies, ... I can use a smallish saucepan. Will need to experiment a bit more, but for daily small-quantity use, this appears to be much more convenient than dragging out the typical larger pots or containers needed by other products.
2) Technical: A few hiccups. Initial attempts to connect Joule to WiFi and update firmware failed. I have a Ubiquiti WAP with a single SSID that talks 2.4 and 5GHz with 5Ghz band steering preference. Joule did not appear to like that. Had to create a separate 2.4GHz-only SSID and tell Joule to use it to obtain a reliable WiFi connection (Joule only talks 2.4GHz WiFi). YMMV (and likely will) with other WAP's.
