Vacum bag size for 6lb chuck roast.

Shawn, Just got my Joule, cooked an excellent steak, I am a decent Cook but this tool takes a lot of guess work and careful watching out of the equation.

I am interested in preparing the chuck roast on the site this weekend. What is the ideal sized vacation bag to put it in? I have 2 gallon zip locks but this is a very long cook and I want to prepare a Prime Rib for Christmas and again a sturdier bag is preferable.

IMHO, I would use (and I do use) vac bags. They are heavier than zip locks (for long cooks) and are designed to be used in sous vide cooking.

You didn't say how large the chuck roast is but that sounds like it should work....unless you get a 15 pounder!

If you use the Ziplocs you can double up the bag, I prefer vac bags.

Thanks, I found some large vacum bags for a chamber sealer that should work but I have both 1 and 2 gallon freezer bags.

Webstaurantstore.com has some big pouches 14 x 18, you don't need to vacuum seal them. Just use the water displacement method.

For long cooks I woukd highly recommend double bagging no matter what bag you use. Also lengthen the cook time and it will get more tender. Instead if 24, go for 36 or 48 imho
