Pausing Joule?

My husband cut out a hole on a Cambro lid to fit Joule. Used it for the first time today, and realized I was not sure what to do with the Joule after the water was heated and I needed to put the jars in. I ended up having him hold it at an angle so it would have water going through it instead of running it dry. Is there a pause function? Is it Ok to just set it on the counter while you load your food in?

Unless you are doing a cook that is several hours long, a cover is not critical. My only cover, even for upwards of 100 hours, is plastic wrap. In any case, you can wait to cover the container until after the food is in the bath...or you can stop Joule, then re-start (though I never find that necessary) because of my plastic wrap-cover situation. So, if you think you need to, you could stop Joule, set on counter and restart. Your bath will not lose that much heat in the process.

What I would do is stop Joule, you can either do that in the app or just press on the top of Joule for one second. Then after Joule is back in place, just reset the temperature and set the time. If you put it on the counter (running dry) it should shut itself off but I wouldn't risk the chance of it.

Thank you both! This was for creme brulee. I guess I really didn't need the lid due to the short cook, but I wanted to try out my hubby's handiwork. Next time, no lid for the short cooks, and just resetting it for the longer ones. I appreciate your replies!

Cut the hole in the lid to look like this. I made the hole oversized to accommodate my Anova and Joule. I need a lid to keep my cats out. They are fascinated by the water movement.
