Like most, I suppose, I generally get a little something for myself over the holiday season and this year it was a Joule. I'd waited long enough that my delivery date was scheduled for 1/4/17 and that was fine...until it showed up much earlier, 12/30/16. That was super shipping.
But it left me wanting to try to try something right away...and I did. I toodled off to the local market and picked up a decent small steak, 2/3 lb. and 1" thick. I generally have spinach around the house for salad so I was good to go there. I'm not a big carb eater so I simply left those off.
I looked the the recipes and instructions on my smartphone and decided on a cross between a regular steak and the ultimate steak. Actually I just did the wilted lettuce bit.
I salt and peppered the steak a bit, added a bit of olive oil and herbs, bagged it and dropped in water Joule had brought up to speed for a rare steak and sat back till just a few minutes before time was up; 60 minutes. I realize I could have left things go till a bit later, but I had to run off after dinner and didn't have a lot of time to spare.
With just a minute or two left I wilted the lettuce with a bit of butter, pepper, and garlic, then heated the pan I'd used a bit more and seared the steak briefly.
Wow!
That's pretty much all I can say about it. I expected it to work but I wasn't quite prepared for how well it worked. Perfectly.
I'm not much of a cook...but I guests will never know.
Happy New Year all!
