Delay Start Joule?
mwallio
Is there a way to set the Joule to heat up at a certain time? I don't want to leave it running all night, but I want to be able to wake up and drop what I'm cooking into a heated bath.

There really isn't, but because of the speed at which Joule heats, it shouldn't slow you down much. Use a smaller container...you can even start it from bed when you wake up. For example, say you want to cook a couple of eggs...water in a 4 cup measuring cup only takes a couple of minutes to get to temp.

I'd love a delay start. It's not about the water heat-up time, it's the cook time. You gotta get up pretty early if you want a sous vide egg.

An expensive high tech piece of cooking gear like this really should have delayed start. The are a lot of situations where delayed start would be needed. Here's a couple of real world examples.
1. Your going to the movie and want your food to be done when you get home but the optimum start time is an hour into the movie. You don't want disturb the other movie goers by opening the Joule app on your phone.
2. You teach piano in your home and you start teaching at 3pm and want dinner ready by 6pm. You could set it all up and tell it to start at 4pm. And your chicken would be ready just in time.
3. Your going to spend the day outdoors away from any cell towers. You could setup the Joule and your meat in an ice bath and set it to start at the appropriate time.
In summary, if ChefSteps wants Joule to be the premier sous vide device they really should add delayed start. It should be pretty easy software update. (Quick before the other guys beat you too it!)

I'm amazed the Joule lacks delayed start feature as well. I work late and want auto start for my dinner(e.g. steaks) but don't want it cooking all day!!
I actually also own a less expensive model and now prefer it due to this and other items such as what if your phone is not handy- no ''plan B'.
Oh and if they save this feature for a future model vs. simple software update, that will be inexcusable.

For instance for tomorrow, I am going to work at 7am, my son is home I would like to leave him instructions to drop a bag into the Joule water bath at say 4pm with it coming up to tem at 3:30 so that we could have dinner at 7pm. It seems amazing and crazy to me I cant do this with the Jiouls, why?

Back to the top. Get it together Joule and offer this very simple but super useful feature!

I agree. It’s incomprehensible that this feature is not offered. I want to cook a tri-tips and Joule’s recommended time is 16 hours. So if I want them for dinner, I’m supposed to stay up until 1AM the night before to start the Joule? Even my clothes washing machine has a delayed start!
