A little over a year ago, I read an interesting article about a bio genetist at the University of Florida who was developing a new tomato from heriloom varities. What made him different from the thousands of seed breeders was he was developing the new breed for FLAVOUR as well as the disease resistance and easy of growth, etc that commercial breeders look to develop. The article also stated that his tomatoes had been choosen by a large group of experts as the tasiest tomato. He developed a large beefsteak style sandwhich tomato and a plum gqp style sauce/canning tomato. For a $10 donation to the program they will ship you 15 seeds of each type to almost any where in the world.
I was more than happy to support that kind of thinking in the food industry but I can also tell you when I grew these tomatoes last summer they were amazing! Delicious and I have never had such a bumper crop (and I grow a lot of different varieties of tomatoes each summer). So if you grow your own tomatoes, I highly suggest you chick this out.
