Absolutely nothing beats good stir fry, and if you don't have access to a high pressure gas burner and a regulator, coal works just fine with an el-cheapo carbon steel wok. I put together a curved pipe which feeds air directly underneath a chimney full of coal. Air is fed thorugh the end of the pipe with a weed blower, and the results are pretty astonishing. As soon as food hit the surface it was like a tanker had exploded in front of me. Needless to say this isn't all that safe especially if coals aren't fully lit, and the radiant heat coming off this thing necessitated using welders gloves, but it's pretty damn entertaining.
