Just got my Joule today after a few weeks of research. I was actually set on the Anova Wifi model and waiting for it to go on sale for under $150 as it commonly does.
Saw a few of the Chef Steps videos on the Joule and read up on it. After some research I decided to change to the Joule due to 2 reasons. Amazon Alexa integration (I use it for a lot of things) and because it was more powerful (1100w vs 900w) as a bonus the app looked amazing to let me cook food without googling time/temp for every meal.
The one feature Anova has that the Joule does not is the bigger/better clip and I knew that would be a challenge for long cooks using a cooler. So I already started to device some "hacks" to get around this using the Joule.
First, yes there will be a clip to come out from ChefSteps to help with this, but it is not out yet, and I would not personally want to pay much for it. If its $5 I'll get one if not.... Here are the hacks!
Go to Home Depot, Lowes, Harbor Freight, Etc. If you just need the "clip" for bigger containers find yourself a C-Clamp that fits your device. The C-Clamp is pretty much what the Anova uses, what you will do is clamp that to the side of the container and then clip the Anova onto the C-Clamp (90 Degree Bend, this also helps get that circular water rotation going)
The water level will need to be pretty high (as compared to the top of your container) for this but it works well.
If you are running low water instead of using the clip, that is when we start to take advantage of that magnet on the bottom.
You can put this under the container and the magnet should still have enough pull to attach it. On a thick container you can attach it INSIDE the container and while it wont attach to the container it still gives you a bigger and heavier foothold.
The last hack that I have not put together yet is similar except it will allow me to get the Joule up off the bottom of the container and up higher to a desired height. Thinking of something like attaching the cover used above to a PVC pipe (or metal pipe if you want to spend more) bracket.
Once I get some time to break out my video camera I'll put some of these on camera and up on YouTube to share with everybody.
