I thought the box was somewhat fancy.
I bought it because it wouldn't take up much space in a drawer/cupboard (vs my polyscience) and didn't require a huge pot with a ton of water. It's so small and I use it so much, I ended up just standing it at the back of the counter with the cord tucked behind it. (I wonder if it'd fit in the knife bag I take when I visit my parents.)

Me four, cord wrapped around and tucked into the gap between the white housing and the metal foot so it doesn't unravel. In a drawing with my thermometers, immersion blenders and such.
