On the hunt for a Cambro

Hey guys,

I'm looking for a line of Cambros that are BPA free, and can stand up to 200 degrees F. I'll be using it for sous vide cooks, as well as brining. All of the BPA free cambros I've seen only have a max temp of around 160. I may end up having to buy 2 different ones for each purpose. If anyone knows of something that fits the bill, and wouldn't mind sharing, I'd appreciate it!

I use a LIPAVI and a Cambro, don't know if they are BPA free or not. Personally, as the food is inside of a BPA free bag I haven't worried about it.

I'll give it a look! Only reason I'm concerned with the BPA is because I'm planning on using it for brining/marinades. Looks like I may have to get separate ones.

As to Cambro and BPA, here's a blurb from Cambro...

ABOUT CAMBRO’S PRODUCTS

BPA can be found in Cambro products manufactured with polycarbonate (Camwear®).

BPA is not found in Cambro’s polypropylene or polyethylene storage containers, ABS products, or in most Cambro tumblers which are made from the SAN resin. Products manufactured using these materials are deemed BPA-Free.

So the answer is yes and no, depending on what type of Cambro you purchase. I have several sizes of Cambro(some are polycarb and some are polyprop) and have used them for marinating, brining, etc and I don't even give it a thought. Maybe if I used them every single day for those uses it would more cross my mind but because it's intermittent use, I more fear getting run over by a damned ol' train that I do getting BPA poisoning. The Cambro's are NSF approved so they are used all over the country in commercial kitchens so if you don't use them in your own kitchen, chances are you've consumed lots of food that has been stored or otherwise placed in a Cambro.
