Don't do the 61.23 Software Update

Hi Everyone,

Just loaded the 61.23 software update on my Joule (like an idiot) and now water flow doesn't start when the Joule is sent a temp request. The app believes everything is working, but no water is flowing. Factory reset the Joule and re-paired it to the app. No luck.

I'd hold off on the update unless you want your dinner ruined.

Left the Joule disconnected from power for 25 minutes as I wrote this post and opened a support ticket. Decided to give it one last shot, since my filet mignon really wanted to be cooked in the Joule, and the Joule came on with water flow and heating. Not exactly sure why this worked, but it did.

61.23 has been around for a while now ... both my Joules are running it. Maybe it's a good thing you opened the ticket because ChefSteps will be able to diagnose. Glad glad it's up and running, sounds like a good dinner... take a pic and post!

Glad it's working now. As @pd3ski_278514 said though 61.23 has been around for awhile, November I think. Both of my Joules are running it with no problems.

Also you might try the ol' delete/reinstall app.. sometimes this is necessary ;-)

Okay, so this just happened to my Joule. It simply stopped while pre-heating, still connected to the app and still registering the temp as it quickly cooled down. I was using a version of the Joule app previous to the latest one, so I deleted the app from my phone, downloaded the latest version and reinstalled. I cleaned the propeller cavity and waited a full 30 mins before plugging in. Again, app connected without issues but no circulation and heat. I've opened a support case. I will update this post as it develops. In the meantime, I'm manually cooking sous vide over the stove top, using Joule as a remote thermometer. This is surprisingly working out well. I'm able to keep my temp to 165F +/- 1F without much intervention. But I do hope I get Joule working properly again.

is this something we all need to worry about or just an isolated incident with @Gq ? I am making a huge dinner on Saturday and want to make sure this will not affect the 48 hr cook I had planned.

We feel confident confirming that both Robert and Gq’s issues were not due to the 61.23 update. You'll be better off being in 61.23 as you start your cook for this weekend's event.
