sharpening a mandoline

I've got a couple different mandolines (one berniner for work, and another one for the house, don't know brand).

Just wondering if anyone has had luck sharpening the blade on the Berniner?

You can take it off, but I don't know how easy/effective it is to run it on a stone.

I've tried it on a stone a few times but have never been able to get it as sharp as it is out of the box.

You can buy replacement blades.

The blades for the mandoline that I have can be sharpened - I use a guided sharpener for a perfect edge but in order to get them truly razor sharp they have to be stropped like a straight razor.

The problem with that, depending on what type of blade you have, is holding the blade safely and properly.

I had to make a sort of a handle for mine. Here's a short straight razor stropping video.....

Any update on this sharpening video @grant? My benriner blade is getting dull and would love to see how you do it.

I went ahead and sharpened it today since I was doing a knife already, obviously not sure how grant does his but I just followed the angle until i felt a burr on the flat side forming and then flattened it out and it seems to be pretty good right now.
