Tokyo recommendations

Hi Everyone, I'm flying to Tokyo with my girlfriend in 2 weeks and I'm trying to gather as much recommendations as possible for things to do there and of course great place to eat. I'm not into touristy things, so whatever off the beaten track is highly appreciated. Also any locals who are interested in meeting upc drinks on me.

I did, I'm a bit skeptical with Bourdain, I watch one of his show about San Fransisco and was quite disappointed by pretty much everything he recommended.

Where are you staying? Tokyo is a big place, like cities within cities.

Hows your Japanese? Off the beaten path can be hard if you don't speak Japanese or can't read the menu. That said, even the chain shops will be impressive.

I love ramen so I'll comment on that, but for other suggestions check out tabelog, its like the Japanese yelp. You should also try a kaiseki.

As for ramen, the best authority is ramen adventures. That guy eats a ton of ramen so watch his YouTube channel and blog and you'll have more than enough recommendations. Hes also the only English language guy on the scene.

Some of my favorites are..

Kikanbo, in kanda, a spicy miso with schezuan pepper

Sapporo junren, takadanobaba, a thick Hokkaido style miso ramen covered in an oil slick of hot lard

Go no Kamisama, shinjuju, a shrimp flavored tsukemen.

There's also a ramen street in Tokyo station. Rorukinsha is the busiest shop by far. And its really popular with foreigners because David Chang went there on a TV show. But the like is like 2 hour wait. But they have a location in Haneda international airport departure gate, so you're flying out of haneda eat it there and skip the long ass line.

You should also check out Kappabashi. Tsukiji is a popular tourist attraction but you have to wake up super early, and there's no trains running at that time.

Search around and find out what festivals (omatsuri) are going on. Get some yakisoba and enjoy the festivities.
