American Joule w/ European Voltage

Hey everyone! I just travelled from the States to England and now I'm about to head over to Switzerland. I used my Joule in England to cook for my family and now I want to do the same for my family in Switzerland but I have concerns about the voltage. I know there's already a thread that says you need a transformer but all I used in England was a "fused" adapter and my Joule worked fine (and both Eng. & Switz. are 230v). Anyone got any insight on this?

The Fuse adapter is not a converter or transformer (obviously) so it "might" work (and obviously the EU power is more than enough, the question is will it damage the circuitry. The answer here is maybe. Nothing like a whole bunch of "it might be fine". :-)

Now that you mention it it was making a really loud, intermittent whining noise which only stopped once it got close to target temp; hopefully I haven't damaged it haha. Thanks for the response!

While using a large power transformer capable of over 1200 watts might work, ChefSteps highly discourages it. It will also void the warranty. If you want it now, I would either get one that is 220 Volts or wait a bit longer and hope the 220 version is released soon.

This is from the ChefSteps Joule FAQs:

"We currently have only a 120 V version available for purchase and shipping within the US. However, we are very committed to our international members, and we plan to expand to some international markets with a 240 V version. We hope to expand to international markets as soon as possible, but we do not currently have a firm ETA.

Please note that the current design is not capable of operating safely on 220 or 240 VAC power, even with a transformer or converter, and will not be covered by our warranty when used outside of the US."

Gotcha, so I definitely shouldn't have used it with just an adapter when I was in England then. Well, hopefully when I get back to the US it'll still work!

I wouldn't connect Joule with a fused adapter to 230V. Even the short time the fuse needs to disconnect would certainly damage the electronic. The 1200W transformer might work, if the Joule consumes the 1200w. The transformer will corrupt the security in case of a failure.

On the other hand there is only a change of one electronic part inside the Joule necessary to adopt the 230V. If somebody got the single line diagram, I could advise and would do it myself.

I'm waiting over a year to receive the ETA of 230V version. So this will never ever happen.
