Smoking Gun

Can anyone comment on how quickly the smoking gun can produce smoke from a resting mode, and how much smoke it puts out while resting? I want to use it intermittently but on demand in an area where I also need to strictly limit the ambient smoke. It seems like it may be perfect for this, but I haven't used one, and would like some feedback before I make a purchase. Will it basically cut all smoke production when you cut the fan? In a start-stop mode of use, how long does it take to get the smoke going between applications? Thanks!

It puts out a surprising amount of smoke, like you really want to either be outdoors or under a hood. That can be somewhat controlled by smoking into a bag or under plastic wrap, but you usually still get some leakage. It starts smoking in seconds and stops pretty quickly, but there will be a little bit of smoldering.

Thanks Michael! I may have to rethink my plan. I will be indoors, without a hood. I had planned to apply the smoke into a semi sealed container, but am concerned it could get out of hand in an enclosed public space.

If by indoors, you mean a house with a smoke alarm, I wouldn't advise it. If you are in a commercial situation, doing this tableside or something, I wouldn't worry about it at all. With a few practices, you can gauge the right amount of material so it doesn't get out of hand.
