Dining in Washington D.C.

Got a last-minute opportunity to accompany my wife on a business trip to D.C. this weekend. I was raised in central PA, and would visit D.C. many times a year growing up and through college. However, this will be my first time there in ten years, and the first time I'll be able to do anything other than meet my ride at the airport in closer to 15 years. So I'm excited, to say the least.

We've got dinner sorted for the three nights: Barcelona Wine Bar, Oyamel, Graffiato. And we're hopefully working in a trip to Toki Underground for their ramen. However, does anyone have any other suggestions for food-related shenanigans in D.C.?

Sounds like you've got a pretty good list there. One thing I would recommend is some Ethiopian Food. DC has a huge Ethiopian population and therefore some of the best Ethiopian food in the US. My favorite in terms of food is Dama in Arlington (right behind the Pentagon). Dama isn't a trendy or fancy restaurant at all but the food is spectacular. The owner is the former pastry chef at the White House so dont skip dessert. For a little nicer ambiance head over to Ethiopic on H St.

I was in D.C. a few weeks ago and ate at Rogue 24 and Jaleo. Not the cheapest of places but both were good dinning experiences.

Proof over by the Verizon center has a good wine selection and solid food. There's also the old standby's of Rasika (solid indian food), CityZen (Eric Ziebold's place, kinda pricey but you can do the bar menu for a cheaper a la carte option), and I actually prefer Zatinya to Jaleo these days.

If you're interested purely in food, I'd look toward Tyler Cowen's recommendations, although they are probably slanted toward the suburbs.
