So I get a notice from you guys today that there's a 2-day code for $30 discount for the Joule to pass along to friends, etc. With a handy 30 buck gift card for getting any takers. I have a friend who loves the Joule but is not quite down with the price, so he's been dragging his feet.
I send him this message: "Gavie, if you’re interested, (or even if you’re not) the folks at Joule just passed out a $30 discount code to “their people”, good today and tomorrow…
Not sure if it discounts a $200 one or a $179 price. Oh—just looked. The white model lists at 179. (It’s the one I have.) So that’s a pretty good price reduction, making it $150. Also, fyi, their $20 full site access fee is totally worth it, it’s a one time pay, forever access—it’s one of the best cooking sites around. (And I love that they are right here in groovy offices in the Pike place market.)"
He responds: "Wow! HUGE thank you for passing that deal along.
Thinking it would take $30 off the S180 I was all over it. So I went ahead and started the purchase, looking for a place to put in a 'coupon code.' I turns out that ain't the case, the discount price is $180. Then they wanted sales tax! At $150 I was in. At $194 not so much.
I decided to simplify. I'll keep my eyes open for another deal, probably hold out for the $100 Anova.
But thank you for thinking of me.
And finally, I reply: "That’s fucked up!! I’m so bummed that they pulled that bullshit. And I will let them know!
Thanks for telling me."
I ALWAYS sing your praises to all my cooking-obsessed friends who don't really know about you yet. But this really irks me. And if you're going to play this game with numbers, just give the $30 back to my friend!
And then again, if I missed something here and am ranting inappropriately, then I apologize in advance...! Because I do love you and the quality of your site and product.
