In search of a food safe fine mesh sieve.

Does anybody know of a high quality fine mesh sieve that is also made from food safe materials? In this community the Adventech Sieves are usually recommended as the gold standard. I contacted the Advantech company inquiring about the food compatibility of their completely stainless steel sieves. The response was: "I'm sorry but our Sieves are not food grade or free of lead or heavy metals. We appreciate your interest. but I'm afraid these sieves will not help with food"
Where should I go from here? Will you guys keep using your Sieves knowing they could leach toxins into your food?

Try Gilson. But speaking personally, between having a chinois and a tamis, I've never felt the need for a set of (quite expensive) sieves.

I talked to Gilson. They said their sieves are also not safe for food. What tamis do you use? The only ones I can find seem to be horrible quality compared to the test sieves.

I just have a cheap Winco tamis, which is indeed horrible quality compared to test sieves. But at a tenth the cost, it's hard to complain. Can't imagine why the Gilson sieves wouldn't work, but I suppose we'd better take the manufacturer at their word. I did find Newark Sieves and their website explicitly mentions using their stainless models for wet sieving food. The quality appears high as well.

I have one of the cheap Winco tamis as well. It's not too bad for the price. The mesh is # 20 which is a pretty coarse. My Matfer chinois is about # 35 mesh. That's the main reason I've been looking into test sieves, the meshes can be incredibly fine. Gilson didn't specify why their sieves wouldn't work, but my assumption would be some type of lead solder. Thanks for the link the Newark sieves! Those look very promising!

Probably not food grade, but have had no issues at all with them. I did thoroughly wash and rinse and poured quarts and quarts of hot water through them to ensure no particles turned up on the food. Was pretty easy.

I think the manufacturer of the sieve acted honestly towards you, and it deserves respect. By the way, I think all these super-ecological things that help preserve all their nutritional qualities in products are just a clever marketing ploy. I think that there is no such sieve that would be made for use in the kitchen and at the same time, it would be really dangerous. I recently found the article free food with no money and used several tips after trying free food in different places. I'm sure none of the cooks who cook for the church and similar places think about the fact that a sieve can harm food.

I just want to point out something: if you're using a sieve with a brass hoop, and the mesh is soldered to the ring, then the solder is likely a tin/lead mixture. This is according WS Tyler, a major manufacturer of test sieves. See link below.
