Mystery Water Loss & Stellar Customer Service!

I started a 24 hour cook on some lamb shanks yesterday. Between 3pm and 3am there was nominal water loss, maybe 1/2" out of a 5 litre crockpot, so hardly any. At 6:30 am I got up and the Joule was running in a 1/2" puddle of water in the bottom of the crock, flashing red and whistling madly. I had to unplug it to turn it off. There were no cracks in the crock. The counter was bone dry. I have no idea what happened!

I contacted Customer Support, had a swift email exchange, which included sending them the digital receipt from Sur la Table, and a new Joule is on the way to me. Big kudos to customer service!

Hi Stacy, that’s gotta be one of the more bizarre stories I’ve heard here on ChefSteps just assuming 3+liters~ of water anomaly. I can’t even come up with say.. squirrels taking a hot tub needed to change the water scenario unless there was a length of surgitubing and some siphoning involved.. well indeed I did come up with that sooo.... Geico commercial!?!

In addition to being very durable*, light and storable (nest well together), they also have great insulating properties so while keeping the heat in the outside remains reasonable to the touch even up to 180~

I use12/8/4qt for the majority of cooks and I definitely recommend a couple 2qt as they are the perfect size for brining a couple of chicken breasts or potatoes (for baking) . I keep it very simple by using small size bubble package wrap, cut to shape, for longer duration water retention.. like 12h+. Yes the bubbles get water vapor in there but they dry quick for many many uses
