I just wanted to share my experience as a warning to others. I decided to cook some pork belly sous vide for ramen. I set the cooker to 174 and went on with my day. I heard what sounded like something falling.. i check out the kitchen and didn't see anything. I later find out the noise wasn't something falling but my quartz countertop cracking. I didn't protect the counter from it (stupid me) and the extreme heat for extended period heated the center of the counter so much it cracked! Total bummer.
Moral of story: Kids, protect your work surfaces! ChefSteps wasn't fooling around!
