Kitchen remodel

The wife and I are embarking on a kitchen remodel! I have the opportunity to seriously upgrade on appliances. I wonder if the community might weigh in on a couple of issue. I am in the NE USA,

1. Stove: I operate just fine on a standard consumer gas range. I have a GE model right now....Should I upgrade to a 36 inch, six burner, range? If so, brands that you like?

2. Currently lots of unhappiness with the current dishwasher. It is not that old. It is a kitchenaid. Given all of the cooking I do, it gets very heavy use, but doesn't clean well. I would love a suggestion for a dishwasher that gets the job done.

So, would love to hear your thoughts on high quality, high performance, home kitchen appliances.

as far as the stove I really like the Blue Star brand. They make a nice 36" range with many options to customize. Everything from burner/flat-top set-up, to color combination. You can even request which way the oven door opens.

I don't actually have one.....just really want one.

If you can upgrade to the 36" 6-top, I'd recommend it. We had a Premier P36S348BP that I liked; very no-frills, but was a workhorse and otherwise checked all the buttons. Good value for the money.

At 36", you have extra cooking surface, but minimal loss of counter space. You'll obviously also get a larger oven. Also suggest making sure the oven can be set to very low temps; the lowest temp my current oven can do is ~150°F, which is a little warm for many applications.

Biggest recommendation I can give, however, is to make sure the burners are all the same BTU. There is nothing I hate more than 'simmer burners'. Every burner is a simmer burner...... that's what the <Q-Bert noises> knob is for.

If your panel can handle it, you could also consider induction.

In regard to the range, consider how easy/difficult it is to clean. Many models are overcomplicated in detail. As a good cook will surly adapt to a btu more or less. For the dishwasher, are you rinsing debris away before loading the machine? And it is always better to do pots and pans by hand, separate , the old fashion way, as the machine relies on circulation of water which a pan or pot will block.
