Best Portable Range?
cammarata.nick
Hi Everyone,
I spend a lot of time in long-term hotels and AirBnBs while traveling. I don't necessarily have access to a decent stove-top. Anyone have suggestions for a
good portable range I could buy and bring along with me?

Have you considered the single/double induction burners?

Other than a camping stove (which isn't for indoor use), I can't think of anything that would be super fun to travel with. But if you were going to do it, I'd definitely go with a counter-top induction unit along these lines:

. The upside is you don't have to go buy propane and it is clean and powerful. The downside is that you will have to have access to cookware that is induction friendly - basically anything a magnet will stick to.

There really is no "best". But there good ones that fit your specific application.
As Michael and Brendan had noted, induction cooktops are both economical and very easy to setup. Just make sure you bring a small iron pan along, and also that the circuit you're pulling from can handle 15amps at 120vac. Paderno (World cuisine) pans are pretty good and cheap, but they are a bit heavy, however if you go with a crepe style pan, it'd probably fit in your suitcase easiest since they have the flattest sides.
Here are some other options for stoves that are non-electric and their fuel sources, they're all backpacking stoves but they're versatile and readily available for purchase almost anywhere, including their gasses. Keep in mind that ventilation is paramount in either indoor or outdoor use.
Butane Stove:
Primus Classic Trail Stove
--- Inexpensive and reliable burner with a wide pot support for added stability, excellent simmer control. Piezo ignitor sold separately
Multi-Fuel Stove:
MSR WhisperLite Universal Multifuel Stove
--- Expensive and reliable Butane/Gasoline/White Gas/Kerosene stove that supports a variety of fuel choices, must be used outdoors when used with Liquid fuels
Primus OmniFuel Stove
--- Less expensive and reliable alternative to the WhisperLite. Burns Kerosene better than the above, and Diesel too.
Accessories:
Alocs CS-G07 Remote Stove Adapter
--- Allows you to give your butane stove a very stable platform and better simmer control over your burner
Kovea Butane Canister Adapter
--- Allows you to use Butane Gas Cassettes available at Asian Grocery or Restaurant Supply stores
Butane Gas Canisters and White gas is available from any sporting goods store nearby. Gasoline works just fine in the Multi-Fuel stoves and you can get that in small quantities from somebody's car with a length of surgical tubing.

Go with induction and before you use them in the room make sure you have read and understand any clauses in the room use. In most cases unless the room has a kitchen you are not allowed to cook in it.
