cleaning cookware

I recall a thread of posts pertaining to cleaning cookware. If I recall, Grant was recommending Mr.Muscle or similar (oven cleaner)? I am under the assumption this would be for the outside of the pans/pots. Or am I correct? If so, what is recommended for internal surfaces of stainless steel? Externally it works well, just hesitant to use it on internal portions. Assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I couldn't live without Scotch-Brite stainless steel scrubbing pads for any serious build-up along with Scotch-Brite green and non-scratch blue scouring pads as well as Barkeeper's Friend....both liquid and powder.

Hope this isn't sooo late not to be helpful. I add a drop of soap to tap hot water (160 degrees F) to my pan set it on the stove till just before it boils. Scrubbing with a nylon pad (watch fingers) seems to remove grease build up on ceramic or other non-stick pans.. I also recommend Bar Keep on stainless steel starting with the close to boil soap process..

Never too late. :-)In addition to all of the previous, I tend to treat my cooke where like I'm deglazing it to clean it (essentilly heat and add water and soap). For the inside this works really well. I only have one induction burner and 4 gass burners, but now spend more of my time using the one induction burner than any of he other gas burners. It's simply faster and cleaner. The exeption is if I sear using the large cast iron pan and I can't really say how dirty that gets on the outside. ;-)

For more every day SS cleanup, I use baking soda and water on my prep table, SS sink, and pots. I do like BKF for tough jobs, though.
