Kitchen Burns
davidattala
A few days ago I gave myself a nasty burn while doing something a bit silly at my job. I had to fight my way through the rest of the night, but no good cook will ever give up under similar circumstances. Upon arriving home, I began treating myself - which got me thinking (having access to this community) does anybody have any tips, techniques or products that they swear by when dealing with similar kitchen accidents?

Burn Jel. It really works. It's basically just Lidocaine. I keep a box in the First Aid kit. It's good for sunburns, too:

Hmmm.... thought this was gonna be like the scene in "Jaws" where Quint and Hooper compare scars.

Haha. I guess it could devolve into that, but that certainly wasn't my intention. That said, what cook doesn't proudly show off his/her scars and have a story to tell along with.

Aloe Vera. I don't work in a pro kitchen, but I burn myself more than I care to admit (just burnt the middle of my right palm yesterday)...works every time. I used to keep a plant in the kitchen, but now I just use the bottled version.
