Mango taste like ... fish?

I had mango before but this weekend I made a mango-vodka cocktail and their was such a strange fish taste in the cocktail, I was really surprised!

After I googled it, I found that other people also found that (some)mango's taste like fish. Did anyone else had a similar experience? Do you know why this happens?

Was it frozen at some point? In my experience, mango that has become over-ripe or oxidized too much can take on some fishy overtones.

I came across this as well after making some mango sorbet from store bought frozen mango chunks. There is definitely some fish taste, like grilled salmon.

I should disclaim that I never met a mango I didn't like. Until this weekend. I have had mango sticky rice, mango Crystal Light tea, mango Torani syrup, honey mangoes from the grocery store, mango cookies, mango mousse, mango gelato... you get the idea. So this weekend, I was looking in the ice cream section and I saw two brands of sorbetto that I'd never noticed before and both of them are mango-flavored. I got them home and tried a spoonful of each and they tasted so strongly of fish that I couldn't continue. I don't eat fish as a general rule because I don't like the flavor of most of them. I have read elsewhere that people who think mango tastes like fish also think cilantro tastes like soap, but I am a cilantro lover, so that doesn't explain it. The only thing I know for certain that the two sorbettos had in common was that they both claimed to be made with Alphonso mangoes. I do not know which mangoes were used in the other products I ate, but perhaps it wasn't that particular variety? I thought it was maybe a strong umami flavor -- stronger than I'm used to a concentration of -- that was the deciding factor? I'm going to keep researching.
