Vacmaster Portable Vacuum Sealer

I've had a FoodSaver sealer for 2 years and it stopped working. I want to upgrade to a chamber sealer. I also like to sous vide large pieces of meat so being able to seal 12 inch bags is important to me.

I just purchased one at Walmart (when they were $120) and I love it. Don't know about the portability as it weighs 60lbs and it is 2 feet long. Lol.

I've compressed, pickled and just plain old vacced. I've done liquids with no problems also. I thought the chamber would be smaller than it is and I don't think I will ever have a problem fitting anything in it. It is quieter than the food saver I was using also.

My only complaint is the gasket gets pulled out sometimes after the cycle runs. It's more an annoyance than a problem.

For me it was a great investment. I would suggest it to anyone, especially at the price I got it for!

That is a great chamber vac for the price, it isn't "portable" though.

Ken Struys - I have one and like it a great deal. Portable about as much as a 50L dewar is....... You would benefit from a trolley. :-) All that said, finances permitting, I would opt for a version or 2 up from the 112. More flexibility.

I have one and love it. Like others have said, it's not really portable. I have taken it to my parents' house for a long vacation, but I'm pretty sure everyone thought I was nuts for doing it. I kind of thought I was nuts too. I have a cheap (the cheapest) Food Saver that I take with me as it's much more portable but I'd always rather have my VP-112 with me. Logistics aside, it's a nice entry-level chamber vac and is several hundred dollars cheaper than the closest competition. The bags are much cheaper than the Food Saver ones and you don't imprint a waffle pattern on your meats when you pull a tight seal. I considered buying the VP-215 and the new Polyscience unit, but there was nowhere in my kitchen that those would fit. The footprint of the VP-112 is a bit longer than other units because the pump is to the side and not underneath, but it's not nearly as tall as the other units are.

Ken Struys Based on your two threads I wanted to let you know that I am in a similar market. I am about to pull the trigger on the Waring blender and the VP112. From my research, both seem more than up to the job for what I need them for at home.

2 good choices! I have a vitamix (2 speed) and wish I knew of the waring at the time. Also, knowing the VP215 doesn't have the capabilitie to pull a cannister actually would have steered me toward the 112 for home use. Not sure if the PS has the option, but since I've used it, it would be worth considering for aerating things such as whipped cream, chocolate mousse and the like.

@Todd Shewman‌ You cannot pull external cannisters but one way to work around that is using mason jars in the chamber. (As long as they stay under 5 inches! So pint size wide mouth or shorter)

P.S. I also heard a lot of bad things about the VacMaster cannisters cracking and not holding pressure but I never tried them. YMMV

I've never used the vacmaster brand canisters but I have and use the foodsaver variety and they held up for 4-5 years before starting to crack from repeated washing and pressure, the lids are still working fine though so I would just need to find a replacement base. I use them for making kimchi.

What did you useto pull vacuum? The foodsaver? I should probably borrow the cannister I bought for my old foodsaver before it broke down. I gave all the bags/adapters/canister when I bought the VP215.

I've only used the vacmaster cannisters and have gone through 2 in over a year, so not too bad. The last one after taking it our of the freezer, and..............impatience got the best of me.

After getting a chamber sealer, I'm hanging on to my old FoodSaver just for the canister set up ... And for making really long bags that won't fit in my VP215.
